Discover the art and science of flameproof ceramics.
Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring Laguna’s Flameware Clay, a specialized clay body engineered to withstand direct heat and open flame. Designed for gas and electric ranges, ovens, broilers, barbecues, and even microwaves, this advanced body combines durability with handmade ceramics—perfect for creating custom cookware that transitions seamlessly from studio to kitchen.
Students may choose one of two options when booking:
The handbuilding group with Yunting will work on the north side of the studio in our fully equipped handbuilding space, using GR Pottery Forms to create functional cookware such as casseroles, bakers, and serving pieces. Emphasis will be placed on slab construction, compression, seam reinforcement, and thoughtful form design to ensure durability and even heat distribution.
The wheel-throwing group with Lenny will deepen their understanding of throwing Flameware on the wheel, focusing on clay preparation, wall compression, rim and base design, and structural considerations that allow pieces to safely move from flame to table. Participants will also explore lid-making and attachment techniques specific to Flameware.
Each option has limited space, so reserve yours quickly!
Bonus workshop segment: Exclusive first look at new Kemper Pro-line prototype tools!
Instructors will conduct trimming demonstrations, and students will have a hands-on first use prior to their official release.
What’s included:
12 lbs of cone 10 Flameware Clay
